April 24, 2022
The death toll from COVID in the Darling Downs Health region has reached 24.
The latest death was included in Queensland Health statistics released on Wednesday.
Across Queensland, another four deaths were announced on Thursday, taking the State’s toll since March 2020 to 795; all but seven of these deaths have occurred since the borders were reopened on December 13 and 58 have occurred since April 1.
The statistics also show a total of 1030 people have officially contracted COVID-19 in the South Burnett Regional Council area since the pandemic began, including 58 cases since April 1.
However, the true level of infection is likely to be higher, with not all people registering a positive Rapid Antigen Test reporting their condition to Queensland Health, and people with mild symptoms not getting tested.
There are officially 52,982 active COVID-19 cases in Queensland at the moment, including 8754 confirmed during the latest reporting period.
These figures are down from the 60,130 / 10,984 from just a week ago, suggesting the Omicron wave has peaked.
Across Queensland, there are currently 590 people being treated for COVID-19 in hospital, including 16 in intensive care units.

COVID-19 vaccination restrictions have now eased across Queensland.
From 1:00am on Thursday (April 14) there is no longer a legal requirement to be vaccinated or check in at:
- Pubs, clubs, cafes and restaurants
- Theme parks, casinos and cinemas
- Weddings
- Showgrounds
- Galleries, libraries, museums and stadiums
However, the requirement for vaccinations will still apply in vulnerable settings including:
- Hospitals
- Aged and disability care facilities
- Prisons
- Schools and early childhood centres
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the easing of restrictions last week, saying they had achieved their purpose, ie. slowing the spread of COVID.

southburnett.com.au has been keeping track of some basic statistics for local Council areas since the re-opening of the State border on December 13.
These statistics, from Queensland Health, show the total number of confirmed positive cases per Local Government Area since the pandemic began in January 2020.
They are NOT the total of current ACTIVE cases but demonstrate how the virus has spread recently throughout the local community.
We have taken snapshots on Dec 13, Dec 21 and daily since December 29.
These figures are current to 7:00pm on Wednesday (April 13):

* On April 13, Cherbourg Council warned that a COVID positive case had attended the Wakka Wakka Determination event in Cherbourg on Tuesday (April 12) and advised anyone with symptoms to immediately get tested.
NB. Data is reported by Queensland Health daily but can vary over time due to case reviews. When we took the first snapshots, Cherbourg LGA had not been added to the list by Qld Health as no cases had been recorded there. From December 31, data is current to 7:00pm the previous day. Numbers for all regions must also be considered underestimated. Not everyone who has tested positive using a Rapid Antigen Test has reported their result to Queensland Health. Not everyone who has had a mild dose of the disease has been tested. Also, the official statistics show 443,425 positive results (as at April 13) which have not been allocated to a Local Government Area.
