The Bunya Mountains Rural Fire Brigade can now simply press a button to automatically roll up their doors … something that the firies did when they held their first general meeting for the year on April 2.
The new doors have been proudly sponsored by the Heritage Bank Nanango.
Bunya Mountains Shed Committee co-ordinator Peter Weekes said the recent upgrades to the shed had increased its security and accessibility.
The building has been quiet recently due to the COVID outbreak but it has not been completely deserted thanks to the community volunteers who maintain the shed.
“Opportunities from local organisations like the Heritage Bank Nanango Community Fund allow us to build on the foundations we have on the mountain to protect the community. We are very appreciative and ever looking to expand and improve,” Peter said.
The April meeting also provided an opportunity for residents in the village on the mountain a chance to gather and socialise while contributing to a worthwhile cause.
“To gather and connect with community has been sorely missed over the last couple of years and hopefully 2022 provides some rays of hope that more opportunities will be on the horizon,” Peter said.
