A 26-year-old man was remanded in custody when he appeared in Murgon Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning facing charges related to Monday’s siege in Kingaroy.
Damian James Jurgensen was charged with serious assault of a police officer, wilful damage, common assault, possession of a dangerous drug and a drug utensil, and four counts of contravening a domestic violence order.
Police went to a house in Doonkuna Street about 6:00am on Monday to locate Jurgensen in relation to a return to prison warrant and other matters.
They will allege that when they attempted to arrest him, he barricaded himself inside a bedroom and armed himself with multiple weapons.
Police invoked an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act at 8:40am and maintained a cordon around the property for several hours.
Police negotiators and specialist police were deployed.
About 3:30pm, Jurgensen surrendered to police without incident and the emergency declaration was revoked.
Jurgensen was remanded to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
