The speed limit on the western end of Taylors Road in Kingaroy will be lowered to 80km/h next week in a bid to improve safety.
The change will come into effect next Tuesday (March 22).
A South Burnett Regional Council spokesperson said the decision had been made after a recent Traffic Advisory Committee meeting.
“The existing 100km/h section has been reviewed and the decision was made to reduce this section back to 80km/h,” the spokesperson said.
“Please drive to the prevailing road conditions and to adhere to signage.”
The decision means traffic will be travelling 20km/h slower when it reaches the dangerous Bunya Highway intersection.
The Taylors Road / Bunya Highway intersection has been the site of many serious traffic crashes over the years which have continued despite a “black spot” upgrade in 2017.
In July last year, Council voted to write to the Department of Transport and Main Roads to request the existing 80km/h speed zone on the highway be extended a few hundred metres past Taylor’s Road to improve safety at the intersection.
As of Tuesday, the 100km/h zone had not been moved on the highway.
