Floods … what floods? Despite all the drama that has been in the local area over the past couple of weeks, the Proston Show was a big hit with locals on Saturday.
Will the roads be open? They were! Will the rain stay away? It did …
Proston is known for its strong showing in the cattle ring, and 2022 was no exception.
As well as the hotly contested Stud Cattle and Prime Beef competitions, there was also a well-supported Speckle Park feature.
Speckle Park cattle are a modern Canadian breed which are growing in popularity because of their versatility, temperament and carcase performance.
Their unusual colour schemes also attract attention!
The State finals of the Queensland Ag Shows prime beef and stud beef Young Judges and Young Paraders competitions were also held, which added more excitement to the day.
Congratulations must go to South Burnett entrant Chloe Plowman (who represented the Murgon Show Society) who will now be heading off to the Sydney Easter Show to compete in the National Stud Beef Young Paraders competition against entrants from across Australia.
Former Proston boy and well-known Murgon businessman – and Murgon Business and Development Association president – Leo Geraghty officially opened the show and helped with some of the ribbon presentations in the cattle ring.
There was also a smattering of politicians: retiring LNP Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd; hopeful LNP candidate for Flynn Colin Boyce (the current State Member for Callide), and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington were all involved in one way or another on the day.
All the usual show activities were also there … pavilion competitions, poultry, woodchopping, chainsaws and even a dog high jump,
Equestrian events filled the main ring with a range of competitions including showjumping and the Stockman’s Challenge.
The big day was topped off with a grand fireworks display.
