Extensive recent flooding in Goomeri and surrounding districts has led to the cancellation of this year’s Pumpkin Festival.
The Festival’s recently appointed organising committee announced the decision in a formal statement on Tuesday morning:
“With a heavy heart, the organising committee has decided last night that our Festival will not be able to go ahead in 2022.
“Due to the recent and recurring flooding in the region, damage has occurred on the Festival site and the surrounding roads, meaning that we will not be able to safely proceed with the event.
“We thank you in advance for your support and patronage, and we look forward to welcoming you all back to the Festival in 2023.
“We send safe wishes to the residents of Goomeri and South-East Queensland during this trying time.”

The cancellation is the second to hit the 26-year-old event in the past few years.
The festival was also cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, along with most other public events in the region.
