The South Burnett was “fortunate” major rainfall had tracked away from the region’s eastern boundary, a Council spokesperson said on Friday.

The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group met with emergency services and representatives of the Gympie District Disaster Management Group throughout the day.

The spokesperson said road closures had been minimised within the South Burnett region.

However, the Bureau has advised that further rain is still expected this evening and residents should continue to look for updates and warnings on the BOM site.

If conditions change, keep up to date on Council’s disaster dashboard

The South Burnett Local Disaster Management Group has moved its status to “Lean Forward”.

The LDMG was been provided a weather update on Friday morning.

A spokesperson said the region could expect to see a further 50mm-100mm of rainfall on Friday and possibly overnight. There was also a possibility that some areas may receive even higher rainfall particularly on the eastern parts of region and in areas that are in the elevated catchment.

The LDMG advises that road closures of major roads along with Council roads are commencing and Council’s dashboard was now operational.

People should consider their need to travel and it is likely that further closures of major roads will occur this afternoon, particularly between northern and southern routes such as the Burnett and Bunya highways.
