The Bureau of Meteorology issued a Flood Watch alert on Tuesday afternoon for minor to major flooding in a number of rivers, including the Burnett.

At 2:45pm, BOM said a coastal trough was expected to develop along the southern Queensland coast during the next few days.

This trough and an approaching upper trough will enhance the risk of heavy rainfall in south-eastern parts of the State from as early as Tuesday evening.

Catchments are wetting up from rainfall over the last few days, and are likely to respond quickly to further rainfall.

Heavy rainfall is expected from overnight Tuesday in parts of the Flood Watch area.

River level rises are likely to follow periods of heavy rainfall, however, the timing and areas for initial flood impacts are uncertain.

Flood Warnings will be issued for catchments with observed rainfall where flooding is expected.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

  • Burnett River
  • Burrum and Cherwell rivers
  • Mary River
  • Noosa River
  • Sunshine Coast Rivers and Creeks
  • Pine and Caboolture Rivers
  • Upper Brisbane River
  • Lower Brisbane River
  • Logan and Albert Rivers
  • Gold Coast rivers and creeks
  • Condamine Rivers (Upper Condamine River)
