More than 1000 people in the South Burnett and Cherbourg areas have officially contracted COVID-19 since the Queensland borders re-opened on December 13.

Statistics released by Queensland Health on Tuesday show that up to 7:00pm on Monday, a total of 780 people in the South Burnett Regional Council area have tested positive since the first case was recorded locally in March 2020; 777 of these have been since December 13.

This is not the number of active cases, as many people have recovered, but 129 cases have been reported since February 1.

Statistics released by Cherbourg Council on Tuesday show there are currently 20 active cases in that community, taking the the total amount of cases since December 13 to 300.

Across Queensland, there are currently 33,166 active cases, although health officials believe this number is underestimated.

Ten more people died during the latest reporting period, taking the Queensland toll since the pandemic began to 387 (ie. 380 since December 13).

The death toll in the Darling Downs Health region remains unchanged at 14.

* On February 15, Cherbourg Council reported three new cases, taking the number of active cases to 20 and the total number of cases to 300.

NB. Data is reported by Queensland Health daily but can vary over time due to case reviews. When we took the first snapshots, Cherbourg LGA had not been added to the list by Qld Health as no cases had been recorded there. From December 31, data is current to 7:00pm the previous day. Numbers for all regions must also be considered underestimated. Not everyone who has tested positive using a Rapid Antigen Test has reported their result to Queensland Health. Also, the official statistics show 183,635 positive results (as at February 14) which have not been allocated to a Local Government Area.
