A free service to support local small businesses experiencing – or likely to experience – financial hardship is currently available in the South Burnett.

Helen Schirok is the local face for the Small Business Counselling Service, a jointly State and Federal Government-funded program.

Helen told southburnett.com.au the service covered all the South Burnett, and her territory could also be extended into parts of the Gympie area.

The service is available to businesses in any industry which have been affected by COVID-19, drought or bushfires; experiencing or likely to experience financial hardship, and have less than 200 employees.

Small Business Financial Counsellors will assess a business’ current financial situation, identify appropriate options and help to develop an action plan. They can also assist in the preparation of financial reports – including cash flow and disaster management plans – and provide referrals to professionals within government or the private sector.

More information is available online or by phoning 1300-732-777.

UPDATED with corrections: The 50 per cent rebate for up to $5000 of professional advice for tourism businesses mentioned in our original report, although advertised, is no longer available. Ms Schirok was also not able to attend the Murgon Business and Development Association’s breakfast meeting.
