FLASHBACK: Scott Sewell, from Nanango, with rescue dog Jazmin at a Kingaroy Christmas Carnival several years ago

February 1, 2022

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover the funeral costs of a Nanango man who died while scuba diving at Mooloolaba on Sunday.

Scott Sewell, 48, was brought to shore on a dive boat after suffering a possible medical episode.

He could not be revived despite the efforts of bystanders and QAS paramedics. An autopsy will now be held to determine the exact cause of death.

A post on the Kingaroy RSPCA’s Facebook page paid tribute to Mr Sewell, who was a much-loved volunteer at the shelter.

“Scotty loved the dogs and he would spend all day here making sure every single dog in the shelter had time out in the yard and plenty of cuddles. We would often find Scotty laying down on the grass with a dog cuddled up to him asleep,” the tribute read.

“Scotty went above and beyond for our animals – nothing was to much to ask. From transfers to other shelters, taking on the lead volunteer role, supporting staff and other volunteers. We were very lucky to have him.

“We will miss him dearly … his sense of humour, his kind caring heart, his passion for animals, community spirit and helping others.

“We are thinking of his family at this sad time.”

Donations to assist Mr Sewell’s widow Leanne can be made online
