Somerset Regional Council has completed a major upgrade to sections of the the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail at Lowood, improving the look and functionality.
Cr Cheryl Gaedtke said the new path and drainage work had made this section of the BVRT even more attractive to users of the trail.
“The work that Council has completed on the BVRT and is committed to continuing into the future will result in a world class, highly utilised, regional recreational facility,” she said.
The work on the Lowood section included the construction of shared concrete paths as well as addressing ponding issues which had created a water hazard during wet weather.
Solar lighting, horse hitching facilities and stormwater provisions were also among the work completed.
“As part of the upgrade, we were able to retain trees along the path, taking an approach that saw minimal loss of plants during the works,” Cr Gaedtke said.
“This is in keeping with other town sections of the trail, which offer residents and visitors an attractive experience.”
The works were carried out through a partnership between Somerset Regional Council and the State Government under the Queensland Government Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package.
