QBuild – the State Government’s builder – has job openings available at the moment for 80 qualified tradespeople and 20 apprentices across the State, including Kingaroy.

Opportunities are also available at Atherton, Bundaberg, Cairns, Maryborough, Rockhampton, Thursday Island and Toowoomba.

The 80 qualified trades jobs include plumbers, painters, electricians, carpenters and refrigeration mechanics.

The latest round of recruitment is part of the State Government’s “Rebuilding QBuild” initiative which means a total of 300 trades-based staff, including 60 apprentices, will have joined QBuild over the past three years.

“Previous intakes of QBuild apprentices have come from diverse backgrounds, including former defence force personnel, people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent, women and mature aged apprentices all with varying levels of trade-related experience,” Public Works Minister Mick de Brenni said.

“For this next apprentice intake, we will specifically encourage young Queensland women to consider hard-hat careers.

“Right now, 16 per cent of QBuild’s apprentices are women. That’s even better than the National Women in Construction target of 11 per cent.

“QBuild provides decent, well-paid, and secure employment.

“I encourage everyone interested in a trades job that offers variety and job security – and where opportunities are endless – to keep an eye out for the jobs being advertised on SmartJobs.”
