Yarding numbers dropped to 400 at the latest fortnightly combined agents sale in Murgon on Tuesday (October 26).

This was almost a third below the last sale, where 580 cattle were put up for auction.

Export cattle sold to fully firm rates with feeders and young cattle dearer.

Weaners, in particular, attracted strong interest, selling for prices as high as $7.15/kg.

Cattle for the sale were consigned from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Kingaroy, Durong, Kilkivan and the Murgon district.

Sale results:

  • Heavy Bulls sold to $3.85/kg and $3640
  • Heavy Cows over 500kg sold to $3.81/kg and $2270
  • Cows 400-500kg sold to $3.70/kg, averaging $3.32/kg
  • Cows under 400kg topped at $3.22/kg for an average of $3.06/kg
  • Export heifers sold to $4.20/kg and $2160
  • Brangus steers weighing 425kg sold to $5.32/kg for $2260
  • 360 Charbray steers from Tansey sold for $5.56/kg and $1990
  • Brahman cross steers from Hivesville sold for $5.66/kg, returning $1880
  • 360kg Droughtmaster steers from Nanango sold for $1920 at $5.34/kg
  • 384kg Droughtmaster steers from Tansey sold for $1940 at $5.06/kg
  • Two pens of Brangus weaner steers from Mondure sold for $7.15/kg to return $2097 and $1790
  • Charolais cross weaner steers from Proston sold for $1838 at $6.38/kg
  • Charbray weaner steers from Tansey sold for $1800 and $6.36/kg
  • Brahman weaner steers sold for $7.10/kg and $1615
  • Local Droughtmaster cross steers sold to $1520 at $6.72/kg
  • Droughtmaster weaner steers selling for $6.68/kg realised $1430
  • Braford weaner steers from Mt Perry sold for $1567 at $6.44/kg
  • 445kg Charolais cross heifers sold for $2038 at $4.58/kg
  • Droughtmaster heifers weighing 405kg also sold to $4.58/kg and $1855
  • Brangus heifers from Wondai sold for $1805 at $4.78/kg
  • 395kg Droughtmaster heifers sold for $1850 at $4.69/kg
  • 305kg Brahman heifers sold for $1605 at $5.26/kg
  • Local Brangus weaner heifers sold for $6.38/kg and $1330
  • Braford weaner heifers sold for $6.05/kg to return $1390
  • Better quality weaner heifers sold in the $5.50-$5.80/kg bracket

The next fortnightly Murgon sale will be on Tuesday, November 9 at 8:00am.
