A 21-year-old man will face 54 charges after an alleged crime spree across the South Burnett and surrounding areas since the beginning of July.

The man is alleged to have broken into multiple homes and businesses as well as threatening a police officer with a shovel.

A police spokesperson said the 21-year-old was found hiding in a cupboard at Cherbourg.

It will be alleged the man committed a large number of property offences throughout the South Burnett, as well as at Tiaro, Kilkivan, Woolooga, Gympie, Ban Ban Springs and Gayndah.

Police will allege the man was involved in an armed robbery on July 28 where a 90-year-old victim was threatened with a shovel at a Woolooga business before cash was stolen.

On the same day, the man allegedly ran at a police officer with a shovel, forcing the officer to take evasive action to avoid serious injury.

Police will also allege the man targeted vulnerable victims living alone, breaking into their homes before stealing vehicles which were then used in further offences.

The man has been charged with multiple counts of stealing, burglary, enter premises with intent and unlawful use of a motor vehicle as well as one count each of armed robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle and serious assault of police.

He was due to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Thursday.
