South Burnett residents confused by Wednesday’s State Government announcement about the Ekka Show Holiday can relax … our holiday is still going ahead on Monday (August 9).
At the morning COVID press conference, it was announced Brisbane’s gazetted Ekka holiday next week had been cancelled by regulation and would be rescheduled later in the year.
However, southburnett.com.au has confirmed with the Premier’s Department this announcement applies ONLY to the Brisbane City, Moreton Bay and Scenic Rim council areas.
The South Burnett Regional Council and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council gazetted Ekka Show Holiday is still on Monday.
This has also been confirmed by South Burnett mayor Brett Otto and the CASC.
Kingaroy Shoppingworld and many other shops in the South Burnett will be closed on Monday.
The Containers For Change depots in Cherbourg, Kingaroy and the Nanango pop-up will also be closed.
The date of the new public holiday for Brisbane, Moreton Bay and the Scenic Rim is expected to be determined at the next Parliamentary sitting as it will need legislative amendment.
