Construction of Murgon’s new cultural centre has begun … the Creative Country Association says the building will house an art gallery as well as a fossil museum and art workshop area

There are some big local winners in the latest round of Gambling Community Benefit Fund grants announced on Wednesday by the State Government.

Local groups will share almost $422,000 in Round 109.

Grants will benefit two local QCWA groups, three local Show Societies and improve security at the Kingaroy & District Vintage Machinery Club’s grounds at Butwell Park, near Kingaroy Airport.

The Creative Country Association – the group behind the new art gallery / museum under construction in Macalister Street, Murgon – has been supported to purchase fossil replicas.

Another grant will allow the development of a conservation plan for the historic Boondooma Homestead.

Grant recipients include:

  • Boondooma Museum & Heritage Association – To develop a conservation management plan – $35,000
  • Burnett Region Pony Clubs – Buy printers and laptops – $10,000
  • Cooyar Agricultural Society – Fit out canteen – $31,239.45
  • Creative Country Association – Buy glass fossil replicas – $28,000
  • Farm 2 Fork Collective – Buy computer and kitchen equipment – $18,387.57
  • Kingaroy & District Vintage Machinery Club – Install security fence and buy grandstands – $34,760
  • Kumbia Race Club – Upgrade coldroom – $28,800
  • Mt Stanley Muster – Buy generator and install underground power – $28,000
  • Murgon Pastoral, Agricultural & Horticultural Society – Upgrade pens, grounds and install shed – $35,000
  • QCWA Proston – Replace hall stumps – $33,815.45
  • QCWA Wondai – Upgrade roof, ramp and rain tank – $34,929.37
  • Tansey Polocrosse Club – Build shed – $35,000
  • Wheatlands State School P&C – Install shade structure – $10,000
  • Widgee State School P&C – Buy tuckshop appliances, trailer and upgrade electrics – $27,046
  • Wondai Agricultural, Pastoral & Industrial Society – Buy tiered seating banks – $31,950

The Gambling Community Benefit Fund provides grants of up to $35,000 to community organisations, not-for-profit organisations and local councils to fund local projects that benefit their communities.

Applications for Round 111 will close on August 31.

Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman said there would be four rounds of GCBF funding in 2022: one round offering grants from $500 to $100,000, and the other three offering grants from $500 to $35,000.
