Beach volleyballer Taliqua Clancy’s Tokyo Olympics campaign has begun strongly with a win in a preliminary round of the competition on Sunday.
Clancy and her on-field partner Mariafe Artacho del Solar defeated Cuba’s Lidianny Echevarria Benitez and Leila Consuelo Martinez Ortega in two sets, 21-15 and 21-14.
The Pool E preliminary match was played on centre court in the temporary stadium erected in Shiokaze Park on Tokyo Bay.
The pair will next be in action on Wednesday night, when they take on Italy’s Marta Menegatti and Viktoria Orsi Toth in a second preliminary round.
The quarter finals are due to be played on August 3-4, the semis on August 5 and the final (gold medal game) on August 6.
