Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien has praised Queensland Health staff for their care and attention after his motorbike crash at the weekend.
Mr O’Brien – who is known for his love of motorbikes and even rides to Canberra for Parliamentary sittings – crashed at Lakeside Raceway while riding with friends on Saturday.
He suffered a fractured skull and vertebra, bruising, strains and soft tissue injuries and was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
“Going to have to wear a neck brace for the next six weeks (not sure how that’s going to go chairing Parliament),” Mr O’Brien wrote on Facebook.
“Other than that all good and should be out of hospital soon.”
When a commenter joked that he was now “at the mercy of the Queensland Government”, Mr O’Brien praised the medicos.
“When it comes to birthing my children, teaching my kids and fixing me up after motorbike accidents you can’t get any better than Q Health,” he wrote.
“Seriously though, the wards people, nurses and doctors were incredible. It’s the professional and tireless work of people like them that give us the lucky country.”
