The Goomeri Pumpkin Festival Inc has signed an agreement with Gympie Regional Council to take over the management of the Breitkreutz Pavilion at the Goomeri Sportsground.
The agreement, which was signed after long negotiations, will provide the festival organisers with a permanent home as well as office and storage space.
Festival volunteers have now begun a clean out the historic building and will soon give it a new coat of paint.
Gympie Council invited tenders earlier this year from incorporated not-for-profit community groups to take over management of the facility and an associated storage shed.
The tender included several conditions, including that the successful applicant:
- Maintain and display historical, local sporting memorabilia at the Pavilion;
- Make the space available for hire for community use and temporary/one-off commercial use); and
- Have regard for the ongoing operation of the Goomeri Playgroup on the site.
The 2021 Goomeri Pumpkin Festival will be held on Sunday, May 30.
