Grants worth $1.4 million to target feral pests are available under Round 6 of the State Government’s Queensland Feral Pest Initiative.
Organisations eligible to apply include regional natural resource management groups, incorporated industry organisations, local governments or regional organisations of councils.
Agricultural Minister Mark Furner said the State Government had now committed $24.74 million over five years to support the construction of cluster fencing and the control of invasive plants and animals.
“This investment has been complemented by a $14 million investment from the Federal Government,” he said.
“This latest round aims to support local authorities and organisations in taking on more of their biosecurity responsibility by building their capacity to manage pest plants and animals.
“There is also funding specifically for local governments to continue co-ordinated 1080 baiting programs. This is open to local governments that were previously supplied from the DAF-managed 1080 stockpile.”
Individual farmers should contact their local council, industry group or regional NRM group to discuss inclusion in projects.
The closing date for applications is April 28.
