The traditional Kingaroy Christmas Carnival isn’t going ahead this year but the committee has organised a COVIDsafe alternative – and yes, Santa will be dropping in.
The Kingaroy Christmas Twilight Markets will be held from 4:00pm until about 8:00pm on Thursday, December 10 – the night the carnival is usually held.
The markets, which will feature local stalls, will be held at 16 Glendon Street, ie. the car park behind the Broadway Hotel.
Kingaroy Rotary will be there with their ham wheel and there will also be a raffle with more than $1000 worth of prizes.
Committee member Kay Swansson said they had decided the local community still needed something “Christmas-related” even if the carnival couldn’t go ahead.
“Santa will arrive at 6:00pm for the kids and there will be lollies for the children at the exit of the markets to take home, ” she said.
“We currently have more than 20 local stalls booked in and are still waiting on confirmation from others.
“The event is fully COVIDsafe and will be run under a COVIDsafe event plan to keep everyone safe.”
The venue is where the former Farmers’ Markets used to be held in Glendon Street, opposite the Kingaroy Shoppingworld car park.
“We hope that everybody comes down and supports this festive opportunity to get some unique present shopping done,” Kay said.
