South Burnett Regional Council is considering adding a disability changeroom to the South Burnett Aquatic Centre in Nanango.

The idea was discussed during a visit to the centre this week by Mayor Brett Otto, Cr Danita Potter, Cr Kathy Duff and Cr Roz Frohloff.

Council is currently refurbishing the bathrooms in the centre as part of its 2020-21 capital works program.

The visitors met with centre manager Linda Smith to discuss the current works and suggestions for potential works to support disabled, elderly and rehabilitation clients.

“Council is willing to consider modifications and improvements to this facility to support greater utilisation, disability and accessibility improvements and enhance the experience for all patrons,” Mayor Otto said.

He said Council had appointed a draftsman to design an additional disability changeroom within the existing facility.

Council would consider this design and discuss options for funding the proposed modifications at a future Council meeting.

The SBRC has also bought a Platypus Aquatic and Wet Area wheelchair and is awaiting delivery.
