Local councils have put out calls for nominations – or self-nominations – for their 2021 Australia Day awards.

Nominations are now open for Gympie Regional Council’s 2021 Australia Day awards.
A Council spokesperson said this was the opportunity to shine the spotlight on Gympie region’s achievers … people who have contributed to the region’s culture, excelled in sport and made positive contributions to the community.
People can be nominated in one or more of these categories:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Cultural Award
- Youth Cultural Award
- Youth Sports Award
- Sports Administration Award
- Community Event of the Year

South Burnett Regional Council has also urged local residents to nominate people for Australia Day awards.
Categories are:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Community Organisation of the Year
- Lifetime Achievement Award
- Volunteer of the Year
- Junior Cultural Award
- Senior Cultural Award
- Local Achiever Award (Town & Rural)
- Junior Sportsperson
- Senior Sportsperson
- Sports Administrator/Coach/Official Award

Toowoomba Regional Council is also promoting its Australia Day celebrations.
Australia Day awards are presented annually on Australia Day to local citizens and groups who have made outstanding contributions to their community.
Local Australia Day working groups select each local award category winner.
Awards are available for the districts of Cambooya, Clifton, Crows Nest, Highfelds, Millmerran/Cecil Plains, Oakey, Rosalie, Pittsworth, Yarraman and Toowoomba.
Award categories:

- Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Citizen of the Year
