Two water bombing helicopters were called in to support firefighters at a large out-of-control grass fire at Mannuem on Wednesday.

The fire, burning near Reedy Creek and Johnston roads, was reported to emergency services at 12:15pm.

A QFES spokesperson said 35 fire units – rural, urban and support crews – were called to the incident.

Ambulance paramedics were also on standby but fortunately were not required.

At 12:50pm, QFES issued an alert to local residents, warning them of smoke in the area but advising the fire was posing no risk to property.

Earth-moving equipment as well as the aerial support helped firefighters contain the blaze.

The fire has been extinguished but crews will monitor the area over coming days to ensure there are no flare-ups.
