A South Burnett man whose fingers were partially severed by a circular saw was airlifted by the RACQ LifeFlight helicopter on Saturday.

A LifeFlight spokesperson said the man was reportedly using the power tool at a private property when the blade sliced through at least one of his fingers and his thumb and seriously inured several other fingers.

The rescue helicopter was despatched about 1:15pm.

The pilot landed the aircraft near a local hospital.

The patient, aged in his 70s, was treated at the scene and transported by Queensland Ambulance Service officers before being transferred to the waiting rescue chopper.

He was flown to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition for specialist medical treatment.
