Pandemic restrictions have led to the cancellation of the 2020 Apex Queensland High School debating competition.

The competition usually attracts junior and senior entrants from State and private schools in Kingaroy, Nanango and Kilkivan with the area finals held in the Fraser Coast Apex Club area.

2020 co-ordinator Jim McNall said the decision to cancel the competition had been made after a great deal of thought.

“While we acknowledge that some restrictions have eased and some sporting events have restarted there are still a number of factors to be considered in regards to debating,” he said.

“Debating is carried out indoors and involves adjudicators, co-ordinators, coaches, teachers, parents and students from different schools and locations.

“While the decision to cancel this year’s competition was not an easy one, the safety of all those involved with the competition is paramount.”
