A 51-year-old Nanango woman has died and a second driver injured in a head-on collision on the D’Aguilar Highway at Barkers Creek Flat on Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to the incident – between McCauley-Broome Road and Parsons Road – about 8:00am.
A QAS spokesperson said the driver of the second car – a 79-year-old man – had been transported by private vehicle to Nanango Hospital prior to paramedics arriving.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated a Toyota Starlet heading towards Nanango attempted to overtake other vehicles.
As it came back on to correct side of road, the driver apparently lost control and the vehicle crossed the centreline, into the path of an Audi which was heading towards Kingaroy.
The impact caused the Toyota to tip on to its side.
Traffic on the highway was blocked in both directions for several hours, with diversions in place.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area.
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
