The newly sealed car parking area outside Coolabunia State School

Coolabunia State School had a brand new car park to welcome back Prep and Year 1 students on Monday thanks to a $140,000 project completed by the South Burnett Regional Council.

The works, finished in March, were funded by the State Government’s SafeST program.

A Council spokesperson said the project addressed several safety concerns.

A new bus park and car set down area have been created, car parking bays sealed and a pedestrian crossing installed.

Ramps were also built to provide pram and wheelchair access.

The spokesperson said the project was completed with minor disruptions to the school community and minimal trees were removed.

“Council received a request from the Coolabunia P&C to improve the school’s bus setdown and car parking, especially after seeing how difficult it was for children to board buses from the original pick-up area,” Mayor Brett Otto said.

“We are pleased this project improves safety and resolves access difficulties for the Coolabunia State School community.”
