At 3:00pm, Friday, the total number of positive cases across Australia was 3166 and 13 people have died.

There have been 367 new cases since 3:00pm on Thursday.

More than 184,000 tests have been conducted across Australia.

NSW continues to have the largest number of confirmed cases (1405) followed by Victoria (574) and then Queensland.

Speaking at a press conference in Canberra on Friday afternoon, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said two-thirds of all cases were linked to Australian travellers who had returned home.

For this reason, the Commonwealth – from midnight tomorrow – would be putting all returning travellers into quarantine in hotels or other accommodation for 14 days upon arrival.

This quarantine would be mandatory before they could go home.

The Australian Defence Force would be called upon to assist local State and Territory enforcement agencies to ensure these quarantines were maintained.

The ADF would also assist State and Territory with compliance checks on people who are in self-isolation at home.
