The South Burnett Regional Council has enjoyed four years of back-to-back growth, Council’s final meeting for this term was told on Wednesday.
Cr Terry Fleischfresser said the latest report by a company which collects data about investment and development in rural communities said the SBRC was the only rural council in Queensland that had sustained four consecutive years of positive growth.
“We finish this term of council with a net 0.4 per cent increase in investment and development, which absolutely flies in the face of the State Government which has gone back 0.3 per cent,” Cr Fleischfresser said.
“In any person’s terms, that’s an outstanding achievement considering the fact that we have just come through probably the worst drought of our lifetimes.
“We have seen huge investments across the agricultural, commercial, industrial and business sectors.
“There is an enormous amount of confidence running around the South Burnett at the moment with investment and development.”
Cr Fleischfresser praised the Council staff whom, he said, had responded “incredibly well” over the past four years.
Since the start of the 2019-20 Financial Year, the building section had processed 112 permits for sheds, 71 for houses, 31 commercial buildings and 12 swimming pools.
As well, the property section had processed 12 Material Change of Use applications and eight sub-division applications as well as other assessment activities.
