Murgon Crusaders have finished on top of the Gympie Regional Cricket Association’s A Grade table after 20 rounds of keen competition.
The local team has earned the right to host the major semi-final, which will be played against second placegetter Gympie Colts from 12:30pm on Saturday at Murgon Showgrounds.
The winner of this game will go through to the Grand Final.
Murgon finished the fixtures rounds with 13 wins – three clear of Colts – as well as five draws and two losses.
Their only defeats were early in the season: in Round 1 against Harlequins and Round 8 against Kenilworth.
The last time Crusaders came up against Colts was on January 25 in Murgon, but this match was abandoned.
In fact, recent weather has played havoc with Murgon’s preparations for the final: of their past five games, four have been either washed out or abandoned after play started.
However, Murgon notched up an easy nine-wicket victory over Colts on December 7 in Gympie.
The sudden death minor semi-final will be played on Saturday between Kenilworth and Harlequins at Kenilworth.
The winner of this match will play the loser of the major semi-final for a spot in the Grand Final.
