Telstra has responded to complaints from residents in the Benarkin area about lost mobile phone coverage, particularly during storms.
Telstra Regional General Manager Rachel Cliffe said Telstra designed and constantly monitored its network to ensure a high level of reliability.
She said recent coverage issues at the Benarkin mobile site were caused by transmission issues and were not power related.
“Over the last two months there has been several transmission issues at the Benarkin site. It is a complex fix and our crews are on standby to sort through the issues when they arise,” she said.
“We do understand the frustrations that local communities feel when their communication services are impacted and we’re sorry for any inconvenience during this period.
“We do our best to provide continuity of service, but disruptions will occur.
“Our sites do rely on mains power and while we do have alternate power sources on standby these are still temporary measures until mains power is restored.”
