A dropped cigarette has been blamed for causing a crash in Kingaroy in which a 79-year-old man was taken to hospital.
Kingaroy police were called to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Hodge and Duke streets at 2:40pm on February 4.
It will be alleged a 39-year-old Hodgleigh man was approaching the give way sign on Hodge Street in a hatchback when he bent down to pick up a dropped cigarette.
The driver then allegedly locked up his brakes before striking a Subaru sedan travelling on Duke Street.
A 79-year-old passenger in the Subaru was transported to hospital for observation.
The 39-year-old man was issued a traffic infringement notice for driving without due care and attention ($533 fine and three demerit points).

Drugs
- A 19-year-old Kingaroy man will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on March 2 charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, failing to dispose of syringe, two counts of possessing drug utensils, possessing a dangerous drug and unlawful possession of a restricted drug after police searched a house in Glendon Street on February 3. Police allegedly located drug utensils, knuckle dusters and the prescription medicines Quetiapine and Clondine.
- A 34-year-old Kingaroy man and a 44-year-old Kingaroy man will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on February 24 charged with possessing cannabis and drug utensils after police searched an address in Edward Street on February 3.
- At 5:15pm on February 4, police had occasion to speak to a 28-year-old Kingaroy man in Alford Street. Police searched the man and allegedly located a small quantity of cannabis.The man will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on March 2 charged with possessing a dangerous drug.
- A 40-year-old Cherbourg man will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on February 24 charged with possessing a dangerous drug, drug utensils and failing to dispose of a syringe after police detained him at 1:35am on February 9. The man was allegedly found to be in possession of a small quantity of methylamphetamine, drug utensils and a bag of jewellery. Further investigations are being conducted regarding the jewellery.

Traffic
- A 24-year-old Kingaroy woman will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on March 30 charged with drug driving after police stopped a hatchback on Haly Street, Kingaroy, at 3:30pm on February 4.
- A 68-year-old West Australian man will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on April 6 charged with drink-driving after police pulled over a station wagon in Knight Street, Kingaroy, at 8:30am on February 5. The man allegedly returned a positive sample to a roadside breath test (0.051 BAC).
- A 61-year-old Coverty man will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on March 30 charged with drug driving after police after police intercepted a sedan in Knight Street, Kingaroy, at 9:45am on February 5.
- A 25-year-old Kingaroy woman will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on February 24 charged with drink-driving after police stopped a sedan in Albert Street, Kingaroy, at 1:00am on February 7. The woman allegedly returned a positive sample to a roadside breath test (0.056 BAC).
- A 47-year-old Kingaroy man has been charged with driving while under the influence of a liquor or drug and failing to remain at the scene of a crash after an incident in Kelvyn Street, Kingaroy, on February 8. Police were called at 11:15pm after the owner of a vehicle stated he was at a party when one of the guests left and reversed into his vehicle in their utility before driving off. The ute was located a short time later at a Haly Street address. The driver allegedly returned a positive breath sample (0.281 BAC) and will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on February 24.
- On Sunday, police located and arrested a 24-year-old year old Nanango man who was wanted after allegedly failing to stop for police on December 9 in Walter Road, Kingaroy. The man will appear in Nanango Magistrates Court on March 9, charged with evasion, break and enter of a dwelling and failing to appear in court.

Property
- A 35-year-old Cherbourg man will appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on March 3 charged with stealing after police were called to the Carrollee Hotel in Kingaroy on January 8. Police will allege the man took winnings from a poker machine he hadn’t been playing. The man was located and charged on February 7.
- On Monday, February 3, police received a complaint from a local school a number of windows had been smashed over the weekend.
- Also on February 3, police received a complaint from a Haly Street business that a window had been smashed with a bottle.
- On February 4, 16 louvres were damaged at a business shed in Markwell Street.
- On February 7, Makita power tools, personal items and a Navman were stolen from a Holden sedan parked in the carport of flats in Haly Street, Kingaroy.

Kingaroy Police responded to a variety of incidents between February 3-9 including drug, property and traffic-related offences. They also attended six calls related to domestic violence, issued six infringement notices for life-endangering traffic offences and performed 33 roadside breath tests.
