Farmers and small landholders have been invited to attend a free public forum in Kingaroy next week which will cover animal welfare issues and drought.

The forum has been organised by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.

It will provide advice about how to best feed and care for animals during drought to ensure their welfare.

A DAF spokesperson said there were often tough decisions to be made when pastures and water supplies were low and the rainfall outlook was not promising.

The forum will be held on Saturday, February 1, from 9:00am to 12:30pm at the Town Common Hall in Oliver Bond Street.

It will cover:

  • The duty of care for animals
  • Best practice advice about feeding livestock in a drought
  • The decisions that need to be considered for the future of livestock
  • How to access support and assistance

The sessions are suitable for anyone who keeps cattle, horses, goats or sheep, including smaller landholders and hobby farmers.

Catering will be provided, and speakers will be available after the forum for one-on-one advice.

The forum is free but registrations must be made online
