The local fire ban for the South Burnett and Cherbourg council areas has been extended again.

A QFES spokesperson said the ban – which was due to expire on Friday – has been extended to 23:59pm on Monday, December 30.

The ban also applies to residents in the North Burnett, Gympie, Bundaberg, Fraser Coast, Sunshine Coast and Noosa local government areas.

The ban has been extended again because the current fire conditions are perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.

Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas have been cancelled.

Information on fire bans and the exemptions can be found on the RFS website

Footnote: The local fire bans in the Toowoomba and Somerset regional council areas are still due to expire at 25.55pm on Friday (December 20).

UPDATE December 18: A local fire ban in the Toowoomba and Western Downs areas has been extended to 23:59pm on Monday, January 6.
