Nanango’s “little cathedral in the bush” is welcoming back home soprano Calista Walters this Christmas for a special performance of carols on Saturday, December 14.
Calista attended St Patrick’s Primary and Nanango State High School before moving to Sydney to pursue her music career.
She has since performed around the world and with Opera Queensland.
“No matter how far away I am, my home town of Nanango is never far from my thoughts and I’m incredibly excited to be performing there for Christmas this year,” Calista said.
“I think it’s important to give back to community and professional performers so rarely come out to our region, my mission is to inspire a new love for the arts in regional south-east Queensland.
“The locals in Nanango have watched and supported my career thus far, and I’m honoured that they’ve welcomed me back to celebrate the holidays with them.”
Calista said she was thrilled to be performing again in the beautiful Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic church in Gipps Street.
“This church is an incredible building and a wonderful performance space. The high ceilings allow the acoustics of the voice to flow effortlessly and it is a joy to get the chance to sing in there once again,” she said.
Her 90-minute performance will also feature Cassie Midgley as well as Toowoomba pianist Abi Bunch.
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for concession. They are available at the Nanango Information Centre or cash only at the door.
The concert will get under way at 7:00pm and will be followed by a cup of tea and cake.
