Show societies in the South Burnett have until December 13 to apply for assistance under the Federal Government’s Regional Agricultural Show Development Grants program.

The grants – up to $500,000 – can be used to upgrade, maintain, buy or build new showground infrastructure and attractions.

There is $20 million available in the program across Australia.

“Agricultural shows are part of our community identity,” Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd said.

“Our local shows have been running for decades and showcase the very best of our local produce that results from generations of tradition and know-how.

“Under the grants, eligible, regionally based show societies and agricultural show peak bodies can receive grants of up to $500,000.

“The grants can be used for repairs or upgrades of existing showground facilities such as outdoor seating, new infrastructure such as a grandstand, assets like portable sheep holding yards or attractions like an agricultural virtual reality exhibit.”

The successful applicants are expected to be announced in the first half of 2020.
