Former Murgon Deputy Mayor – and well-known local businesswoman – Raelene Dennis has died after a long illness.
Raelene, 57, was a familiar face at Dennis Electrical Services but was also well-known in the community for her work with charitable causes.
She took over as head of the CRISIS group, fundraising for the helicopter rescue service, after the retirement of long-time president Irma Close.
Raelene also served as president of the Murgon Hospital Auxiliary and was the co-ordinator of the community effort to assist former resident Shona Muckert after she was badly injured in a car crash.
She was named Murgon Citizen of the Year at the South Burnett Regional Council Australia Day awards in 2010.
A note from the family posted on the Murgon Business and Development Association’s Facebook page on Saturday reads:
“A message to let everyone know that Raelene passed away at 11:50pm last night with Jim, Kyal and Bec by her side.
Raelene is now at peace! She has fought a long and hard fight and suffered a great deal of pain throughout the 3.5yrs of her terminal illness and 93 days of palliative care.
Rest in the place of God. Raelene.
We will always remember you as a loving wife and mother who was happiest when helping others
– 🙏🏻🌹🧡 Jim, Kyal & Bec Dennis”
A memorial service for Raelene Joy Dennis (nee Mooney) will be held from 11:00am next Friday (November 1) at St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Angel Avenue, Murgon.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations to CareFlight may be considered. Envelopes will be provided at the service.
