Local fire bans have been extended again due to the ongoing weather patterns.

On Thursday, a QFES spokesperson said the local fire ban would remain in place until 11:59pm on Friday, September 20, for residents in the South and North Burnett, Cherbourg, Gympie and Somerset council areas.

On Wednesday, the ban in the Toowoomba council area was also extended to 11:59pm on September 20.

The fire danger rating for the Wide Bay-Burnett and Darling Downs regions is “Very High” for Friday and Saturday.

Firefighters warn that conditions are perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly.

Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas have been cancelled.

Power tools may be used during a local fire ban however QFES encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start.

This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.
