Yarraman residents will face High Level water restrictions from Monday (August 19).
Cr Nancy Sommerfield said the move was necessary as the region continued to experience severe drought.
“The hard truth is that we simply aren’t receiving the rain we desperately need,” Cr Sommerfield said.
“As a result of this, we are experiencing significant stress on some water supplies and our Council bores are under pressure in a number of regional communities.
“The weir in (the Yarraman) area is producing poor water quality and we have become more reliant on the pipeline from Boondooma Dam.”
“I would like to thank our community for the work they’ve been doing to reduce water consumption so far and ask that we all remain vigilant in our efforts to conserve water wherever possible.
“In the meantime Council will continue to look at other solutions to reduce the stress on our aquifers.
“We will also continue working with both the State and Federal Governments and all other interested parties, including the private sector and irrigators across the region on our long-term water security planning.”
