Wondai Regional Art Gallery is inviting artists to submit works for the 2019 October Open Art Competition which has a total of $8000 in prize money on offer.
Top prize of $3000, sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council, will be awarded to the winner of the 2019 Mayor’s Acquisitive Art Prize.
The winning entry will be judged from all entries in the open Art, Photography, Sculpture / Ceramics and Indigenous Art sections.
Other prizes will be offered by different sponsors, the Wondai Regional Art Gallery and the Wondai Markets.

First ($500) and second ($200) prizes will also be awarded within each Open section (any theme / any subject):
- Section 1 – Art
(a) Oil or acrylic
(b) Watercolour
(c) Pastel section
(d) Any other medium
- Section 2 – Photography
- Section 3 – Sculpture and Ceramics
- Section 4 – Indigenous Art of Australia
First ($30) and second ($15) prizes will also be awarded in the Children’s sections:
- Section 5 – Children’s Art
(a) Age 4-6 years
(b) Age 7-11 years
(c) Age 12-15 years
(d) Age 16-18 years
- Section 6 – Children’s Photography
(a) Age 12-18
A $100 People’s Choice award will also be awarded on opening night.

A special “Australian Poetry Theme Art Competition” is also being held in conjunction with the 2019 October Open Art Competition.
This competition is being sponsored by Evelyn and Shannus O’Sullivan, from Hivesville.
The artist must choose any Australian poem, written by any Australian author between 1800 and 1900 and use any medium of artwork to interpret that poem.
Prizes:
- Adults 1st $300, 2nd $100
- Under 18: 1st $60, 2nd $40
The opening night for the Art Competition exhibitions will be held from 6:00pm on October 4.
