The State Government has announced disaster mitigation funding of $9.5 million to be shared across 62 projects in regional Queensland.
Three projects will be supported in the Wide Bay-Burnett area:
- Burnett Mary Regional Group for Natural Resource Management – Riverbank shoreline rehabilitation in Burnett River
- Gympie Regional Council – Gympie region flood modelling and mapping
- North Burnett Regional Council – Ross Crossing bridge approaches and rock protection at Eidsvold
The high-priority works are being delivered through Round 1 of the four-round $38 million Queensland Disaster Resilience Fund.
They are designed to improve the ability of infrastructure to withstand extreme weather events.
The resilience projects are in addition to the $100 million Betterment Fund and $14.5 million Water and Sewerage Infrastructure Program already funded under Federal-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queensland had just experienced one of the most destructive storm and fire seasons in the State’s history.
“This investment is all about improving safety and better protecting people’s homes and businesses,” she said.
“Improving our State’s disaster resilience not only protects our communities and our vital infrastructure, it will reduce future restoration costs.”
South Burnett, Cherbourg and Toowoomba councils received no funding from this round.
