Police are hunting a group of juveniles involved in an attempted armed robbery in Kingaroy on Thursday afternoon.
A family walking in Rotary Park was held up at knifepoint by the occupants of a stolen vehicle.
Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Dave Tierney, said that at 1:45pm, a Kingaroy woman and her three young children were approached by the occupants of a stolen blue Mazda sedan.
One of the occupants produced a knife and demanded money, but left empty-handed in the stolen vehicle.
Snr Sgt Tierney said the Mazda (rego 541-WJ) had been stolen from Deception Bay.
At 12:35pm on Thursday it was involved in a fuel drive-off at the Murgon BP Roadhouse.
Shortly afterwards it was reported to be driving erratically between Murgon and Wondai.
It was then sighted in the Kingaroy SupaIGA carpark before next being seen by police on the Bunya Highway heading north out of Kingaroy.
Police tried to intercept the speeding vehicle, which failed to stop.
Due to risk to the public, police abandoned the intercept attempt.
The Mazda, which is believed to have contained a group of juveniles, was last seen heading east on Taylors Road where it crossed on to the wrong side on the crest of the hill to pass another vehicle.
It was recovered in Caboolture late on Thursday night.
Investigations are continuing.
