The Federal Government has allocated up to $3 million for a footpath to be built connecting Cherbourg to Murgon for pedestrians and cyclists.
Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said on Wednesday the footpath had been a priority for Cherbourg Council for a long time.
“This is an important project that will not only add a missing piece of infrastructure in the local region but will support local jobs through the construction phase,” he said.
“We have listened to what the community want, and this project will deliver better infrastructure, more opportunities for local businesses and jobs for locals through this new investment in the region.
“Once constructed, the footpath will provide a safe alternative route between Cherbourg and Murgon for pedestrians who are currently forced to use the verge of the road.
“Not only will this project create local jobs, but it will also give young people in the area the skills and experience needed to help prepare them for their lives ahead.”
The Federal Government has approved up to $3 million towards this project from the Indigenous Advancement Strategy and will work with Cherbourg Council on final costs.
