Gympie Colts turned the tables when they took on Murgon in the A Grade Grand Final

March 10, 2019

Gympie Colts chased down the target set by Murgon Crusaders to take out the Gympie A Grade cricket grand final at the weekend.

The match was played at Kozminsky Oval in Gympie.

The visitors went into the game with confidence after finishing on top of the ladder and downing Colts in the semi-final played a fortnight earlier in Murgon.

Colts, on the other hand, had to earn their spot in the Grand Final in a sudden-death encounter last week against Gympie Harlequins.

Colts won the toss on Saturday and sent Murgon into bat.

Many of the Murgon wickets fell cheaply, with spinner Andrew Mallett taking the vital wicket of Ashley Sippel for just 19 runs.

Sippel scored a century in their previous clash.

Jamian Currin top-scored for Murgon, finishing 39 not out, his highest score for the season.

At the end of their 40 overs, Murgon were 9/123.

The Colts’ bowlers were tight, bowling a total of 10 maiden overs.

Their best was Sam Lang who took 3/19 off his eight overs, including three maidens.

In reply, Colts overtook Murgon in the 33rd over, finishing 7/127.

Lang was also strong with the bat, top-scoring with a quick-fire 28 off just 15 balls.

Allen Ledger was the best of the Murgon bowlers, taking 2/12 off seven overs, including four maidens.
