Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio will not be investigated by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) after a referral from the Local Government Regional Conduct Review Panel last November.
The CCC referral came from the Review Panel’s finding that he failed to declare a material personal interest when Council discussed potential Inland Rail routes.
On Wednesday, the CCC said it had decided not to investigate the matter and would take no further action.
Mayor Antonio told local media this was the second time the issue had been reviewed by the CCC.
“I’m very thankful for the outcome,” Cr Antonio said.
He said he was also overwhelmed by the support he had received from the community before Christmas.
“It was not an easy time for myself or my family, and I’m pleased that we’ve put it completely behind us,” he said.
Mayor Antonio had originally planned to appeal the Review Panel’s decision, but later decided not to.
He said this was because he didn’t want to prolong the matter, or expose himself and ratepayers to the costs of an appeal.
