The Karinya aged care facility in Nanango will receive more than $450,000 in funding from the Federal Government for upgrades.
The funding, from the Aged Care Regional, Rural and Remote Infrastructure Grants initiative, was announced by Member for Maranoa David Littleproud on Wednesday.
Mr Littleproud said the $451,341 grant would be used to upgrade en suites to resolve accessibility issues, increase safety and replace deteriorating fixtures and paintwork.
Karinya is operated by Southern Cross Care.
“I’m pleased that funding for Karinya’s aged care home will alleviate accessibility issues and give residents a fresh feel for the place with new paint and fixtures,” Mr Littleproud said.
“This makeover will provide a new level of comfort for seniors and I think that has a huge flow-on effect in the community knowing that seniors living in the residence are feeling comfortable and cared for.
“This funding supports aged care providers to better meet the needs of seniors, which builds confidence that relevant care and services are available locally, not only in far-off metro areas.
“I think it’s a tragedy is when our seniors are forced to move away from family, friends and community – move away from everything they’ve ever known – to a larger town or city to receive care as their needs change.”
