Police Commissioner Ian Stewart has assured residents there will be no interruption to the Crime Stoppers service, despite the closure of the call centre.
Commissioner Stewart and Crime Stoppers Queensland chair Andy Henderson issued a joint statement on Friday:
“On February 4, the Board of Directors of Crime Stoppers Queensland Limited (Crime Stoppers) announced the closure process of the organisation’s contact centre due to financial considerations.
“Because of the closure, the Crime Stoppers contact centre function will return to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) with no interruption to the important and confidential service to the community.
“This will reflect how the partnership between the QPS and Crime Stoppers Queensland operated prior to May 2015.
“It is important to note the contact centre closure relates only to the call centre component of Crime Stoppers Queensland.
“The Crime Stoppers brand in Queensland remains strong, working to solve and prevent crime, as it has for over 29 years in partnership with the media, the police and the public.
“Crime Stoppers continues to pave the way through highly regarded volunteer activities and anti-crime campaigns supporting community safety across Queensland with great success.
“The QPS is truly grateful for the tireless work of these volunteers who are the heart of Crime Stoppers. Without their commitment these wonderful programs would not operate.
“The QPS is committed to continuing the relationship with Crime Stoppers and the continued evolution of the Crime Stoppers Program in Queensland.
“This close and positive relationship is an example of true collaboration between two organisations dedicated to the goal of keeping the Queensland community safe.”
