Shadow Agriculture Minister Tony Perrett has called on the State Government to commit Queensland to tougher trespass laws at Friday’s meeting of State and Federal agriculture ministers.
This follows the recent publishing online of farmers’ details on an interactive map by an animal rights organisation.
“It’s time Queensland farmers were given the protections they deserve from these animal extremists,” the LNP Member for Gympie said.
“It’s time we bolstered our privacy laws and toughened trespass laws.
“Minister (Mark) Furner needs to offer more than hollow lip service and put serious nation-leading reforms on the table.
“In NSW we have seen new offence of aggravated trespass which carried a maximum penalty of $5500, but nothing of the sort in Queensland.”
